July 17, 2008 - SourceHosting.net Founder Privileged to Become FreeBSD Project Committer
Hollis, NH — Greg Larkin, founder of SourceHosting.net, recently became a FreeBSD Project ports tree committer. After a vote by the FreeBSD Core Team, this privilege is granted to developers who have contributed extensive time and high-quality effort to building the operating system and porting new software tools to it.
"Since 2004, SourceHosting.net has built its entire infrastructure around the FreeBSD operating system, due to its consistent design, implementation quality and stability in production environments. Starting in 2005, I began porting software to the OS for use with SourceHosting.net and gradually became more experienced with the development infrastructure. I am happy to accept this privilege and look forward to advocating FreeBSD's acceptance," said Larkin.
"Three years after I submitted my first software port, I am now able to guide new developers along the same path that I traveled. The collaborative environment of the project has great appeal, and there are many exciting areas to get involved in, such as the current transition of the project repositories from CVS to Subversion."
"I expect to use my experience on the project to gain more knowledge about how large, distributed software projects are managed and then use that to enhance SourceHosting.net."
